Mission

To work towards establishing an agro ecosystem, which is socially and ecologically sustainable and economically viable.

We aim to acheive this by maximising organic inputs, taking timely decisions from the inception stage, encouraging natural biological agents for control of diseases and by creating a habitat that will encourage natural enemies of pests to thrive.
The improvement of soil through vermiculture is being practised extensively and is an important part of the practices being followed in Sundarpur to hasten the decomposition of organic residues. It is a technique by which organic wastes are processed by indigenous species of earthworms into vermicompost. Vermicompost is mixed into the soil while filling rooting sleeves in the tea nursery for good rooting of the tea cuttings. Vermicompost is also mixed with the soil at the time of infilling and replanting for quick rooting of plants. The compost is also used in mature tea fields for enhancing soil fertility.

These practices fulfil the nutrient demand of Tea adequately and promote the activity of beneficial macro-and micro-flora in the soil.

Weed control is manual to the extent possible with sickles and daws. Pest control in an eco friendly plantation begins by taking timely decisions from the inception stage, such as selecting planting material that are naturally resistant to diseases and pests, encouraging natural biological agents for control of diseases, insects and weeds, using physical barriers for protection from insects and changing the habitat to encourage natural enemies of pests to thrive.
